Physical and Mental Health

The Oklahoma Sooner City Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.’s Physical and Mental Health Thrust is committed to providing focus and emphasis on the physical and mental wellbeing of our Sorors and the surrounding community by creating events to promote healthy living and spreading awareness through walks, webinars, and social media posts.

A few of our major initiatives include but are not limited to the following:

Emergency Response Team (ERT): A Sub committee of the Physical and Mental Health Thrust. The goal of the ERT is to increase awareness about emergency preparedness, providing information for early response and recovery, and be of assistance through knowledge and resources, if any of us find ourselves in an emergency situation whether natural or man-made.

Health Awareness Social Media Uploads:  Spreading awareness through our social media outlets each month based on the yearly Health Awareness Calendar. Sharing information on certain mental and physical health conditions, how they affect our community, prevention methods, and resources.

Stroll Bootcamp: In collaboration with project ACE, Alumni and Collegiate Sorors bond through heart healthy workout/strolling, sharing hearth healthy tips for American Heart Month (February). The goal is to increase knowledge of and application of strategies for improving nutrition, physical activity and weight management in efforts to improve heart health outcomes for African American Families.

Sister Circle: In collaboration with The Technology Committee this quarterly mental health check in Zoom call started post COVID 19 and after the murder of George Floyd. Sorors on the call discuss the physical and mental health impacts of our nation’s current state of affairs, from navigating COVID-19 to Racial and Social Injustice.
